San Miguel - Ibiza - Spanje
In the North of Ibiza in the municipality of San Juan, where it is beautiful and rural, lies the town of San Miguel. The landmark of this town is the big white church which was built between the 14th and 18th century on a hill that is called Puig de Missa. Nowadays the plaza of the church can be visited to watch the traditional folk dancing which is practiced by the local folklore groups on Thursdays during high season.
After having watched the amazing performances of the folklore dance groups, you may walk down the village on to the main square and you will bump into the crafts market which is also on Thursdays. This craft market only sells products from Ibiza, such as pottery, fresh honey with the taste of Ibiza and loads of handmade products. You can stroll there for hours and also look at the many different paintings.
The village has little bars and restaurants where you can enjoy some traditional tapas. For example Es Bosc is a small house (finca) just outside the village on the road to Santa Gertrudis where you can sit in the garden. Tapas are served there, as well as meat and fish dishes.
The Port of San Miguel is a small sandy cove with deep clear blue water. Here you will find the best seafood restaurants and all kinds of water sports for your delight. On Sundays enjoy Benirrás where the drummers escort the amazing sun to the depths of the sea. The hills surrounding the natural formed beach are beautiful and green and invite you for a nice walk.
